This document outlines the objectives and recommendations of the Conference on Education and Training for a Changing South Africa (CODESA), held 23-24 April 1992 at the Marine Parade Holiday Inn, Durban. The purpose was to identify and implement solutions to the problems currently being experienced in the education system - with specific reference to Natal-KwaZulu, the Eastern Cape, Transkei and Ciskei. Key objectives were to produce a position paper that will contain guidelines and plans of action, alleviating the education problems in Natal, KwaDukuza, the East African states, and Transkom, and to establish working committees to implement the plans. The document was compiled for the purpose of serving as a source document as well as a broad framework within which the above-mentioned objectives should be achieved. It acknowledges the importance of pre-primary, primary and secondary education, but neglects details of teacher education and training due to time constraints.
